Vodacom customers get free HSDPA 3.6 country-wide

All Vodacom customers now have the option to experience Vodacom’s new HSDPA 3.6 broadband service for free until 30 April 2008 across its extensive 3G HSDPA network.

“As the Mobile Broadband market leader, Vodacom has extended the benefit of South Africa’s widest HSDPA 3.6 coverage, free, to all our customers for a period of three months across all 3G HSDPA coverage areas,” says Dot Field, Chief Communications Officer, Vodacom Group.

Customers who have an HSDPA 3.6 capable terminal or device such as a Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem, a Vodafone Mobile Connect Express Card or an Embedded HSDPA 3.6 laptop, will enjoy the free activation of HSDPA 3.6 as an addition to their existing data tariff package and will be able to access this service country-wide where 3G HSDPA coverage is available.

From 1 May 2008, Vodacom’s HSDPA 3.6 service will be offered to Contract, Top Up and Prepaid customers as a Value Added Service (VAS) at R49.00 per month/30 days, in addition to the current data charge levied.

“With the widest 3G HSDPA coverage in the country, and now HSDPA 3.6 coverage, our customers have the opportunity to experience the fastest mobile broadband first hand”, she concluded.

HSDPA 3.6 is a 3G High-Speed Downlink Packet Access mobile telephony protocol, which offers increased data transfer speeds and capacity of up to 3.6 Mbps on the downlink and up to 348Kbps on the uplink, under ideal conditions.
